Geological Wonder

A Millennial Stone Forest

The limestone massif of Tsingy de Bemaraha is a karst landscape of exceptional rarity. Over millions of years, erosion has sculpted these gigantic stone needles — “tsingy” — a Malagasy word meaning where one cannot walk barefoot.

This mineral labyrinth of more than 72,000 hectares was recognised by UNESCO in 1990 for its outstanding universal value, becoming one of the most visited natural sites in Madagascar.
